Jason Brown and
Nathan Chen are in podium position after the first day of competition at Internationaux de France in Grenoble, France.
Jason Brown thrilled the crowd with his first-place, 96.41-point short program. Brown landed all four jumps, including a triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination. He received three Level 4 spins.
Nathan Chen, who won the Skate America title in October, is in third place with 86.94 points. He landed his opening triple Axel, and earned over 15 points from his quad toe loop-triple toe loop combination.
In the ice dance competition,
Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker scored 69.85 points and are fourth heading into Saturday's free dance. The tandem had solid twizzles to open the program and was awarded a Level 4 lift. Rachel and Michael Parsons scored 68.14 points in their rhythm dance. The duo, who are in sixth place heading into Saturday, were awarded Level 4 twizzles and a Level 4 lift.
Bradie Tennell is sixth heading into the free skate in the ladies competition. She earned 61.34 points, landing all four of her jumps.
In the pairs competition,
Tarah Kayne and Danny O'Shea were the top American team with 63.45 total points. Currently in fourth place, the duo landed their side-by-side triple Salchows and their throw triple Salchow.
Audrey Lu and Misha Mitrofanov earned 56.71 points to finish sixth in the short program.
