The United States captured three medals on Saturday night to close the 2021 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic in Norwood, Massachusetts. Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue won gold and Eva Pate and Logan Bye earned bronze in ice dance, while Gabriella Izzo grabbed the bronze medal in the women's competition at the Skating Club of Boston. In total, the United States collected five medals at the event.
Hubbell and Donohue collected their fifth U.S. International Classic title with a total score of 207.30. Their 123.24-point free dance, set to "Drowning" by Anna Sila, included a Level 4 combination lift which earned 14.26 points and was the three-time U.S. champions' highest-scoring element.
"I know Zach and I are very proud of the work that we put in on elements this season, especially having that combo lift at the beginning of our program," Hubbell said. "To be able to perform it in front of people and have the crowd reaction was a really nice moment. We are looking forward to going home and working on the consistency to boost up that score quite a bit, but we are overall happy with the day."
Totaling 171.70 points, Pate and Bye earned their first career international medal and set personal bests with their rhythm dance, free dance and total score. Their Hunger Games themed program included Level 4 twizzles and earned 104.50 points.
"The program felt really nice," Pate said. "We have been training really hard every day and just being able to be out here and put out a clean skate makes me feel really proud of us."
After a boot malfunction in the rhythm dance, Lorraine McNamara and Anton Spiridonov rallied to finish fourth in the free dance and fifth overall with a total score of 161.82. Their Phantom of the Opera performance earned 101.76 points.
Russia's Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin earned the silver medal with 190.63 total points.
In the women's competition, Izzo secured the bronze medal with a 118.83-point free skate to music from Sunset Boulevard. Her program included a triple flip-double toe loop combination followed by a triple Lutz-double toe loop. The Skating Club of Boston athlete collected 182.76 total points.
"There were a few minor mistakes, but overall, I'm very pleased that I was able to put out two decent performances and enough to make it onto the podium, especially in my home rink," Izzo said.
Sierra Venetta earned 177.40 points to finish fourth overall. Her free skate scored a personal-best 115.80 points and included five triple jumps.
In fifth place, Paige Rydberg earned 95.79 points for her free skate to total 154.03.
Maxine Marie Bautista finished seventh overall with 138.08 total points and a 92.37-point free skate.
Russia's Alexandra Trusova won gold in the women's event with a total score of 216.80. The Republic of Korea's Yeonjeong Park earned the silver medal with 212.40 points overall.
On Friday night, Jimmy Ma grabbed the silver medal and Eric Sjoberg earned bronze in the men's competition. Camden Pulkinen finished fourth, Maxim Naumov placed sixth and Dinh Tran rounded out the U.S. contingent in ninth place.
