Team USA Adds Another Medal at JGP Slovakia

The United States earned another medal during the third week of the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series in Kosice, Slovakia.
 
Will Annis earned third place in the junior men's competition with 204.60 total points. Annis shined in the short program finishing first with 76.21 points in a near clean skate.
 
His fourth-place finish in the free skate (128.39) earned him a podium finish.
 
Russia'a Kirill Sarnovskiy won gold with 215.96 total points followed by teammate Ilya Yablokov with 207.39 total points and a silver medal finish.
 
In the women's competition, the United States' Ava Ziegler and Mia Kalin notched two top-10 finishes, placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in a field of 27 competitors.
 
Ziegler earned sixth with 176.29 total points, finished sixth in both the short program and the free skate.
 
Kalin improved on a 10th-place short program to bounce back with a seventh-place finish in both the free skate and overall, earning 156.23 total points.
 
The Russian women swept the podium. Veronike Zhilina (216.92) won, followed by Sofia Muravieva (208.25) and Adelila Petrosian (201.21).
 
The U.S. medal count for the 2021 JGP Series is now at nine medals – five gold, two silvers and two bronze.
 
The U.S. did not have entries in the pairs or ice dance competitions.
 
In pairs, Russians Anastasia Mukhortova and Dmitry Evgenyev won gold, the Georgian tandem of Karina Safina and Luka Berulava earned silver and Russians Polina Kostiukovich and Aleksei Briukhanov took bronze.
 
In ice dance, Canadians Natalie D'Alessandro and Bruce Waddell took gold with 163.04 total points, followed by Russians Vasilisa Kaganovskaia and Valeriy Angelopol with silver, and Russians Sofya Tyutyunina and Alexander Shustitskiy with bronze.
 
The next 2021 JGP event will start on Wednesday, Sep. 15 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and end on Saturday, Sep. 18. The ISU will stream all events live on its YouTube page. Fans can follow along on the JGP Series Competition Central page on the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone.
