The 2023 U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships presented by Prevagen welcomed more than 480 athletes to Salt Lake City, Utah where new champions were crowned in 11 championship-level events.
Championship Adult Gold Women
A new name topped the podium as Megan Daly (SC of San Francisco) was crowned champion in the championship adult gold women's event. Daly had the highest technical score of all competitors thanks to a Level 3 sit spin and a Level 3 change foot combo to score 38.21 points.
Emelyn Haynie (Winter Club of Indianapolis) opened with a Level 2 layback spin, one of the most difficult components in her program to earn the silver with a score of 33.82.
Cindy Crouse (Wagon Wheel FSC) captured bronze with 33.11 points. Briana Lee (Los Angeles FSC) followed behind in fourth with 32.67.
Championship Adult Gold Men
Sasha Dresbach (Northern Ice SC) topped the championship adult gold men's field with a total of 45.91 points. Opening with his most difficult elements: a Level 3 single Axel, single Euler, double Salchow combo and a Level 3 change foot combo spin that helped Dresbach earn gold by over 10 points.
Rafael Quintanar (SC of Boston) opened his program with a single Axel that helped him earn silver in the event. His final element, a Level 3 sit spin, gave him the push to the podium with 35.57 points.
Marco Pizzo (All Year FSC) claimed bronze with an overall score of 32.83. Dean Wiles finished the podium in fourth with 32.40 points.
Championship Adult Silver Women
Atlanta based skater, Marinice Bauman (Georgia FSC) was crowned the champion of the adult silver women. Bauman won the title with 31.27 points and the highest technical score of 13.
Amy Earl (Salt Lake Figure Skating) brought home silver with a total score of 27.03.
Stephanie Kazior (Great Falls FSC) took home the bronze while and Heather Stables (Atlanta FSC) finished fourth, respectively.
Championship Adult Silver Men
Tyler Thames (Heart of Texas FSC) brought home the championship adult silver men's title totaling 26.75 points. Thames opened his program with his most difficult jump, a single flip-single Axel combination that helped him earn the top spot.
Less than a point separated the rest of the podium as Adam Hudson (22.76), Sean Ang (22.59) and Christopher Shipley (22.27) took the silver, bronze and pewter medals, respectively.
Championship Adult Solo Dance
Jill Ahlbrecht (Great Falls FSC) was crowned the inaugural solo dance champion. Ahlbrecht led the competition in both the pattern and free dance competition.
Grace Stuever (Pittsburgh FSC) finished the pattern dance in fourth place but moved up in the ranks to win the silver medal overall after finishing third in the free dance.
Carly Harris-Koleczko (Mt. Clemens FSC) and Alyssa Miller (Wisconsin FSC) won the bronze and pewter medals, respectively.
The championship adult solo dance uses the 6.0 grading scale.
Championship Adult Dance
The 2022 bronze medalist Pamela Federbusch and Alper Ucar (Panthers FSC) topped the podium with an overall 83.52 points. Their free dance featured a Level 4 line lift and a Level 4 synchronized twizzle section.
Jennifer Freedman (Hickory Hill FSC) and Oleg Voyko (Individual Member) captured their second consecutive silver medal with an overall score of 82.48. Their free dance opened with their highest-scoring element a Level 3 straight line lift-rotational lift combination.
Emily Noon and Erich Bookwalter (Swan City Ice Skaters) took home the bronze (61.65) andDiana Cheng and Krill Solovyev (All Year FSC) earned the pewter medal.
Championship Masters Pairs
Stephanie Cooke (Elite Edge SC) and Mark Ladwig (Red River Valley FSC) brought home the championship masters pairs title with a score of 72.78. The duo earned the highest technical score thanks to three Level 3 elements and two Level 4 lifts.
The 2022 champions Erin Krentz and Chris Obzansky (FSC of Park City) earned the silver with a score of 71.43. They closed out their program with a difficult group lift, earning them a Level 4.
Taking home the bronze medal was Elaine Jurun and Zdenek Krajc (Tacoma FSC). The duo's Game of Thrones themed skate scored 50.25 points.
Receiving the pewter medal was Kimberly Sailer (Port City SC) and David Garber (Pittsburgh FSC) with an overall score of 42.13.
Championship Masters Intermediate-Novice Women
Grace Stuever (Pittsburgh FSC) won her first title in the championship masters intermediate-novice women division with a score of 46.23. Stuever executed three Level 4 elements including closing out her highest-technical-scoring element with a Level 4 change foot spin.
2022 pewter medalist, Felicia Rogers (Seattle SC) was only .06 points behind first earning silver with 46.17 points. Rogers had two Level 4 combo spins and a Level 4 layback spin.
Marin Blasidell (SC at Dartmouth) and Olivia Wyrick (Los Angeles FSC) placed third and fourth respectively with 41.05 and 41.03 points each.
Championship Masters Intermediate-Novice Men
Souvanthong Muangkhoua (ISC of Fresno) secured his first title with 40.65 points. He opened with a double toe loop – single Euler – double Ssalchow combo and continued to execute four more doubles jumps for the highest technical score and overall score of 40.65
Eric Bilardi (Los Angeles FSC) trailed by less than tenth of a point with a total score of 40.22. He executed six jumping elements, good for the silver.
Demis Maryannakis earned 37.40 to capture the bronze in his fifth appearance.
Ken Ho earned his second straight pewter placement with 37.19 points.
Championship Masters Junior-Senior
2021 champion Michael Solonoski (IceWorks SC) finished back in the top spot with 85.21 points earning the championship masters junior-senior men title.
JY Sun (Chicago FSC) captured the silver medal with a score of 83.60.
Daniel Plameri (Onyx-Suburban Skating Academy) finished third with 62.22 points.
Championship Masters Junior-Senior Women
Kristina Struthwolf-Leato (Centennial Park FSC) brought home the gold medal after scoring 67.54 points, for her second consecutive and third overall title. She executed two Level 4 spin combinations and three double-double jump combinations to earn the gold.
2022 pewter medalist Ashlee Pantano (Ice House Skating Academy) came in second, only four points behind first, 63.20 points. Pantano opened her program with back-to-back double-double jump combinations followed by a double Axel.
Alice Gee (Memorial FSC of Houston) captured the bronze medal with 62.29 points. Her program featured two Level 4 spin sequences.
Ashleyn Olson (Ice House Skating Academy) rounded out the podium in fourth with an overall score of 60.64.
