Amber Glenn wins SKATING magazine Readers’ Choice Award

Coming off a bitter end to her Olympic season, Amber Glenn roared back during the 2022–23 campaign with podium finishes at Skate America, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and World Team Trophy.

Skating fans from coast to coast rewarded the Texas native by voting her the winner of the 2022–23 SKATING magazine Readers' Choice Skater of the Year Award (Michelle Kwan Trophy). They voted for the eligible skater or team they believed was most deserving of the honor based on the accomplishments of the past season.

An online vote on Fan Zone between July 5–12 was conducted, with 5,758 votes being cast. Glenn, who trains in Colorado Springs, Colorado, earned more than 20 percent of the vote. U.S. champion Ilia Malinin finished second with more than 10 percent, while U.S. and World ice dance champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates placed third with more than 8 percent.

Glenn, who was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Nashville, Tennessee, after the short program because of COVID, competed that following summer and earned the bronze medal at 2022 Cranberry Cup in Boston and was fourth at the Lombardia Trophy in Italy.

She made a major statement at Skate America in Boston by claiming the bronze medal in a stellar field that included the World champion and Olympic medalist from Japan, Kaori Sakamoto. Glenn's season continued its upward trajectory when she secured the bronze medal at the 2023 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, California. That podium finish helped her earn her first World Championships berth, where she placed 12th. Glenn wrapped up her season by helping Team USA claim its fifth World Team Trophy in Japan.

"There are so many incredible people in U.S. figure skating who were eligible for this award," Glenn said. "To know that I had the support of my fans and how they wanted to see me win this award means a lot to me.

"Over the years I've seen this supportive community grow and, through just being my authentic self, I've been able to cultivate a community that's positive, uplifting and kind. I'm just appreciative of their dedication and support."

Glenn will receive the Michelle Kwan Trophy at the 2024 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Columbus, Ohio. This award was launched in 1989, with Kristi Yamaguchi being the first honoree.
