Starr Andrews and Angela Wang have each earned a second Grand Prix Series assignment on the circuit this season, U.S. Figure Skating announced Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Â
Andrews, who is making her Grand Prix debut on Oct. 20 at Skate America, will now be traveling to compete the following week in Laval, Quebec, at Skate Canada International from Oct. 26-28. The 17-year-old began skating in 2005 and climbed the ranks to make her senior debut in the 2017-18 season.
Â
Following her
first brush of fame with her viral "Whip My Hair" exhibition, Andrews placed sixth at the 2018 U.S. Championships, and started out the 2018-19 season with a fifth-place finish at the 2018 Challenger Series Asian Open. She currently trains in her hometown of Los Angeles under coaches Derrick Delmore and Peter Kongkasem.
Â
In addition to her initial assignment to the NHK Trophy, Wang has been added to the U.S. roster for the Helsinki Grand Prix of Figure Skating from Nov. 2-4. This will be her second trip to Finland this season, following her eighth-place season debut at Finlandia Trophy in Espoo, Finland. Wang recently relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, to be coached by Ravi Walia. She will be the only American representative in the ladies competition in Helsinki after 2017 U.S. champion Karen Chen
withdrew.
