Reigning U.S. and World champion
Nathan Chen has been crowned Male Athlete of the Month for the Team USA Awards Best of November. This marks the
Yale freshman's fifth time winning the title. He previously won in January, October, December 2017 and January 2018 for his performances throughout the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season.
Chen was nominated after winning his fourth straight Grand Prix Series event - five including the 2017 Grand Prix Final - at Internationaux de France. Combined with his second Skate America title, the Olympic Team Event bronze medalist qualified for the Grand Prix Final for the third consecutive time. He will look to defend his Grand Prix Final title this weekend, Dec. 6-9, in Vancouver, against a deep field including Japan's Shoma Uno.
In
Grenoble, France, Chen rallied from third in the short program to win the free skate and the entire event with 271.58 points. He was joined by
country mate Jason Brown on the podium, who finished in second with the best short program of the men's field. Team USA won four medals total at the final event of the Grand Prix Series.
Chen adds the accolade to a running list that includes
two Readers' Choice Awards, a fan-voted SKATING magazine award represented by the Michelle Kwan Trophy.
Watch him and the rest of Team USA compete live at the Grand Prix Final with the
NBC Sports Gold Figure Skating Pass.
