National Team: Synchronized Skating

Thank You Class of 2020

As student athletes, skaters have to give their all both on and off the ice. As masters of time management, they prioritize and sacrifice to continue the sport they love while also working toward their future careers. This year, the class of 2020 is not getting the send off they always imagined, but that does not take away from all they have accomplished over their collegiate careers. We asked our intercollegiate and synchronized skating teams to help us give their seniors some much deserved appreciation.

Boston University – Intercollegiate
Boston Inter

The Boston University Figure Skating Team would like to congratulate our seniors. You have accomplished so much in your time at BU. We are very proud of your commitment to our team and we congratulate you on all your success. We are fortunate that your choice to attend Boston University allowed us to experience your incredible work ethic and your passion for academics and skating. You will go down in the BU skating program as the first group of graduating seniors to capture three back-to-back Intercollegiate Team National titles. We will always wonder if you would have won your fourth. More importantly, you have become a part of our skating family and your membership will last a lifetime. The friendships you developed through skating and the experiences you had are all unique to what makes collegiate skating so incredible. We will miss you on campus, but we know you will go on to do great things beyond our campus walls. Congratulations and good luck from your BUFSC family.

To the seniors of BUSST, thank you so much for all your guidance, friendship, support and laughter over the past four years. You have helped our team grow into what it is today, and we cannot wait to see what you accomplish as you enter the real world. From the early Tuesday morning practices, to the West Dhall dinners, to the pre-competition pump up playlists, we hope you will remember all of the great times you had with your teammates. We are extremely proud of all that you have done on and off the ice, and that you take what you have learned with you into your future plans. Congratulations to the BUSST Class of 2020: Isabelle Terranova, Misaki Kobayashi, Shirley Peng and Vanessa Ullman! #ProudtoBU

Dear Seniors,
Thank you for leaving a legacy of passion, perseverance and kindness on BUSST.  It was an absolute pleasure to have your leadership and guidance, not only amongst your teammates, but also for me as a new coach. My heart aches to know that you are not getting the celebration you had hoped for, but please know BUSST has been celebrating your accomplishments all year long, and will continue to support you in years to come.
Best,

Carnegie Mellon University Figure Skating is so proud of our graduating seniors and co-presidents, Beth and Viki! Beth and Viki both joined the team their first year and have been an integral part of leadership ever since. Skating hasn't been the only thing they've been busy with though— both are academic superstars! Beth is graduating with honors in cognitive neuroscience and industrial design, and Viki is graduating with degrees in both physics and math. Beth and Viki, thank you both so much for everything you've done for our team over the years. We truly wish you the best moving forward and hope that your new careers get off to a fantastic start. Congratulations to our teammates Abbie Hasson and Sophie Jones on their graduation from Cornell University! Your creativity, leadership, friendship, skating skills and commitment to our team have made all the difference for us and for Cornell. You inspire us to continue to strive for excellence every time we take the ice. We have learned so much from you. We treasure the memories we made with you over the years (particularly on road trips to competitions) and are proud of the progress our team has made. We may be the only team in the Ivy League without a coach, but we have performed some great programs (choreographed by Sophie Jones) and have taken our share of medals. And it made all those late-night practices at Lynah Rink so worth it. We will miss you both but are so excited for you. We wish you the best of luck in your future adventures! Fingers crossed that the path ahead will take you near a terrific rink. Keep skating!

We want to thank each of you for your commitment to the team the past four years. Your competitive drive, leadership and dedication has shaped the team we have today and made us a stronger unit. Moreover, your endless humor and quirky personalities have enabled us to bond over our shared love for skating and form life-long friendships. Although we wish you could be with us for more training sessions and face-masks, we feel grateful that you are always part of the DFSC family and cannot wait to see what exciting adventures may befall you after Dartmouth! We love you and will miss you more than you know!

Dear seniors – I am so proud of each one of you. It is quite an accomplishment to be in college and on a sports team! When I look at all nine of you, I see how much you have grown since the first day you arrived. You hardly knew one another but yet you have become a family. Many themes and verses over the seasons have brought us together, but the one from this season on "Joy" was more important than we could have ever imagined. Our verse came from Nehemiah 8:10 ... for the JOY of the lord is your strength. You have finished this part of the journey well. But it isn't over. There is so much more. Take his truths and store them in your heart, apply them in the marketplace and wherever life takes you next. I will always cherish the time I had with each one of you. Each one of you are unique. Stay connected with each other – family is forever!

Seniors,
Words cannot express how thankful we are for the heart and soul you have poured into the sport of synchronized skating over the years. You have helped push our team to new heights and have furthered our potential. You are the class that brought us to the collegiate level and three U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships performances. We have shared laughs, hugs and tears together many times both on and off the ice. We will miss each of you in the days ahead, but will cherish the moments we have spent together. As you embark on the next steps in your life, remember to live each day to its fullest and never stop pursuing your dreams. We hope you continue to inspire young boys and girls to do the same. We love you, we miss you and wish you all the happiness in the days to come.

Dear Seniors,
Twelve qualifying competitions, three national competitions, and one national competition (in spirit) later, four years have come and gone. As one of the largest classes to go through Miami Ice Skating Club, we have been a powerhouse in competition – we came, we saw, we conquered – and our bond off the ice has been indestructible. While our time together was cut short, nothing can take away all the memories that we have forged together over the last four years.
Over the years, we have become more than just a team – we are a family. I will miss walking into Goggin after a long day, knowing that at least one of you will be there to shine some light into my life. I will miss enduring the 15-hour days cheering each other on at competitions. Finally, I will miss the 13+ hour bus rides, delayed flights and other hardships that life threw at our team because the camaraderie born out of these stressful and challenging situations created some of the greatest lasting memories. I am eternally grateful that our shared love for figure skating brought us together at Miami and I hope that it reunites us again in the future.
Love and Honor,
Edith

The Miami Skating Class of 2020 will be greatly missed as they leave campus and begin their next adventures! This talented group added greatly to the program on and off the ice. They were heavily involved on campus and in the community through jobs, study abroad programs, non-athletic clubs and faith-based organizations. But more than anything, this group has always taken the task at hand seriously, but not themselves too seriously! Each of them was ready to laugh with you or at a moment's notice, making even the most difficult tasks easier to tackle. Each are tough, resilient, caring, driven and very bright! It has been an honor to share their collegiate journey, watch their successes and walk with them through the difficult times. We wish for Celeste, Maria, Brooke, Jessica, Bailey and Heidi that the world gives them all it can offer! While they will not be on campus this fall, the imprint on the program shall remain. Love and Honor!

NYU

Dear NYU seniors,
It is hard to believe that your time as members of the NYU Figure Skating Team is quickly drawing to a close. From that first meeting in a hallway lounge in Silver to our recent Zoom meetings, you have impressed me as a special group, reflective of the larger NYU community. You each had very different academic interests and pursuits, yet your love of skating brought you together. From freshmen who were unsure about your places on this team, you have become the leaders, each of you playing an important part in the Team's success. How awesome to be members of the Team the first year we qualified for Nationals! Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment! We are all sad that the pandemic prevented you from actually experiencing this National competition, but the accomplishment will always be yours. In addition to this on-ice success, you all deserve congratulations for your roles in bringing this team together over the last four years and helping to shape NYU Figure Skating into a family. Thank you so much for all you have done and congratulations on all of your successes at NYU.
We will miss you incredibly.

Pippa, you are such a hard worker and we are so thankful to have had you on our team. You essentially recruited Coach Julie for us, so this team would definitely not be where it is without you. It is so hard to imagine NUFSC without you, but we are so excited to see you coaching in future semesters! Nadine, we have watched you grow and improve so much during your time on NUFSC and we are so lucky to have been a part of your skating journey. We are so proud of you! Throughout their time at Oakland University, Annemarie Heitz and Jordan King have been on the Oakland University Figure Skating Club team. Annemarie actively managed our competitions, financial account and taught multiple girls on the team to do these tasks as well as she did. She was always there to help the new officers with any questions that they had. Annemarie has been an amazing team member, and we can't wait to watch her on her journey through Law School at Emory! For two years, Jordan King was on our board as secretary. She has been a marvelous teammate who has helped our team grow into what it is today. Jordan graduated with a major in communications and minor in public relations. She is interested in working with nonprofit organizations. We are so happy to have had such a great teammate! We are proud of Jordan's accomplishments and can't wait to see where her journey takes her! – Love, OUFSC

Because of your never-ending support and your genuine love for this sport, you have made it possible for us to be able to have come as far as we have in such a short amount of time. Dear Evelyn, Jenna and Melissa,
We know being away from our beautiful campus this spring and the idea that you may not get to partake in all of the graduation festivities this year is disheartening. However, it does not take away from all your amazing accomplishments over the past four years.  We are so proud of you and our message is the same no matter near or far …
Wherever you go, go with ALL your heart, your mind and your soul. Don't settle for anything less than what you truly want in life. Work hard; play hard. Keep gratitude in your heart, always. Be a good friend. Eat lunch with the person who is alone. Don't compare yourself to others, ever. In size, in stature, in jobs and in your personal life, you do you and that will be enough. Each of you bring a special gift to our world just by being you. While you are out there achieving all the great things you will achieve, never lose sight of the journey. Stay in the moment and savor it always. Live life with joy and happiness and never forget that we will always be your second home. We love you! – M and W
