There's something about competing at the Britannia Cup for DC EDGE and Starlights.
When the two junior teams represented Team USA in 2020, both secured positions on the podium. This past weekend in Nottingham, Great Britain, both teams brought home medals once again as DC EDGE won the gold and the Starlights earned bronze.
Clinching their best-ever result at an international event – their previous best was at this event in 2020 when they won bronze for their first international medal – DC EDGE won both the short program and free skate to tally a total score of 179.81 points.
Strong out of the gate, DC EDGE began their short program performance to "Never Enough" with a Level 4 twizzle element. Later in the performance, their Level 3 intersection with a Level 4 point of intersection received the team's highest marks, resulting in a score of 65.27 for the short.
Their murder mystery-themed free skate earned Level 4 marks on six of their eight elements, including their Level 4 intersection with a Level 4 point of intersection, synchronized spin and move element. The result was a score of 114.24.
The Starlights started off their competition skating to the
Stranger Things theme song. Scoring 58.63, their highest scoring elements were their opening Level 3 move element and their Level 3 intersection with a Level 4 point of intersection.
Although they jumped up to second in the free skate with a score of 110.60, the Starlights claimed bronze with a total score of 169.23. Skating their free skate to the theme of the magical dance of the healing women, the Starlights secured Level 4s on all but two elements, securing their highest scores for both their intersection elements.
Sun City Swing Junior rounded out the podium with 171.65 points for the silver medal.
