Skyliners Junior Secure Second Challenger Series Medal at Leon Lurje Trophy

Skyliners junior earned their second consecutive Challenger Series medal, picking up the bronze medal at the 2023 Leon Lurje Trophy in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Team USA notched three top-five finishes at the event, with the Haydenettes placing fourth in the senior competition and Team Image finishing fifth in the junior event.

In the junior competition, Skyliners junior continued their medal streak dating back to the 2022 season with a come-from-behind performance. Sitting in fourth place after a fall in their short program set to "The Impossible Dream" by Josh Groban, the Skating Club of New York squad bounced back in the free skate to secure their spot on the podium with a total score of 182.29.

Their legends-themed program included Level Four marks on six of eight elements and scored 115.43 points. The reigning World Junior silver medalists also won gold at the Mozart Cup earlier this month, marking two Challenger Series medals for the season.

Team Image notched season's best performances in the short program and free skate en route to their fifth-place finish.

The reigning U.S. junior champions earned 63.02 for their short program performance to "Scream" by Michael Jackson, and 109.79 for their free skate set to music from the Running Out of Time soundtrack to total 172.81 points overall.

Their free program opened with a strong Level Four synchronized spin followed by an intersection with a Level Four point of intersection. The New Jersey based team has finished in the top-five in both of their Challenger Series appearances this season.

Finland and Canada grabbed the top spots on the junior podium with Fintastic winning gold (197.19) and Les Supremes earning silver (187.89).

In the senior event, the Haydenettes were the sole Team USA entry, finishing fourth overall with a score of 211.33.

The 29-time U.S. champions were in fifth place after a fall in their short program set to "Let the Good Times Roll" by Big Gigantic and GRiZ. The Boston-based crew rallied back to place fourth in the free skate with their performance to "Quest for Souls" by David Marsden. Their 145.88-point program received Level Four calls for their intersection (and point of intersection), synchronized spins, no hold element and pairs element.

At their last Challenger Series outing, the Haydenettes earned the silver medal at Mozart Cup.

Finland's Helsinki Rockettes topped the podium with 238.35 points, followed by their countrymates Marigold Ice Unity with 229.05 points and Canada's Les Supremes  with 225.34 points.

Team USA travels to Rouen, France, next weekend for French Cup. The Challenger Series continues Feb. 17-19 at Spring Cup in Milan, Italy.
