Adrian College led Team USA to a silver medal in the senior competition at Hevelius Cup in Gdansk, Poland. In the junior competition, both U.S. teams finished in the top five with the
Northernettes placing fourth and
Starlights finishing fifth overall.
In their first international outing of the season, the Bulldogs earned scores in the short program and free skate that topped their international bests from the past three seasons. Their short program set to "Elements" by Lindsey Stirling earned 64.78 points to place second in the event. The routine included a Level Four twizzle element and intersection. They also received Level Four calls for their point of intersection and the steps in their no hold element.
Adrian College went on to place second in the free skate to secure their silver medal with 193.71 overall. Their 128.93-point
Jekyll and Hyde program opened with a Level Four group lift and went on to earn Level Four calls for the no-hold element, intersection, moves element and synchronized spins. They also notched Level Four marks for their two points of intersection and received all positive grades of execution.
Finland's Marigold Ice Unity topped the podium with 228.79 points while Poland's Ice Fire earned bronze with 155.98.
The
Northernettes won the junior short program in Gdansk with their 61.16 point-performance to "Take Me to Church" by MILCK. In just their second year competing for Team USA, the Minnesota-based team earned Level Threes and Fours for all of their elements, including Level Four marks for their no hold and twizzle elements. Their score was an all-time best in international competition and topped their top score from last season by over four points.
In the free skate, the
Northernettes earn Level Fours on their first five elements before suffering two falls during their second intersection. Their routine to "Finally" by Fergie earned 100.81 points and placed fourth in the event with a total score of 161.97. This was their first international outing of the season.
The
Starlights were in fourth place following their
Stranger Things short program to "Running up that Hill " by Krutikov Music feat. Wønder. They earned a Level Four for their no hold element and a Level Three for their intersection with a Level Four point of intersection to collect 57.65 points.
The Illinois-based team placed seventh in the free skate with 93.26 points, tallying 150.91 overall to finish fifth in the competition. They opened with four consecutive Level Four elements – an intersection (with a Level Four point of intersection), synchronized spins, line and move element – but had three falls during the program themed "magical dance of the healing women." The
Starlights earned the bronze medal last month at Britannia Cup.
Team Canada swept the junior podium with Nexxice winning gold (174.01), Ice Ignite earning silver (164.14) and Nova taking bronze (164.12).
The Challenger Series concludes next weekend with Spring Cup in Milan, Italy.
Miami University and the
Skyliners will represent Team USA in the senior competition while
Teams Elite junior and the
Lexettes will skate in the junior event.
