Haydenettes Record Best-Ever Score by U.S. Team at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships

Thirty-time U.S. champions finish fifth, Miami University takes sixth

Both the Haydenettes and Miami University finished their season with record total scores, skating to fifth and sixth place, respectively, on home ice at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships 2023 in Lake Placid, New York.

The Haydenettes recorded the best-ever total score by a U.S. team at the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships with a total score of 218.32 at the pinnacle event of the season while Miami University also tallied their best-ever score at the World Championships with a final tally of 209.94.

"I think before [the skate], we were all nervous because coming into this, you never know what to expect. Ice is slippery and stuff happens," sixth year Haydenettes member Cameron Feeley said. "But we went out there and we really gave it our all and it paid off."

After a disappointing short program on Friday, the Haydenettes attacked their free skate, setting a new international seasons' best for both their free skate and total score.

The five-time World bronze medalists and 30-time U.S. champions earned all positive grades or execution and Level 4 marks on six of their 10 elements during their performance to "Quest for Souls" by David Marsden, clinching 153.55 points. Their highest scoring element came on their first intersection, which included a Level 4 point of intersection, and received more than 10 points from the judges.

"We feel amazing," fourth year Haydenettes member Autumn Coulthard said. "After yesterday, that's all we can come out and do is go out there and skate with our hearts and redeem ourselves and show the world this is who we are, and we stay true to that."

Securing international season's bests on both their programs and their total score at the World Championships, Miami University tallied 139.87 points for their free skate to "Ode to Joy" by Karl Hugo.

Despite a fall on their opening element, the back-to-back U.S. silver medalists looked unfazed and finished strong, highlighted by their group lift.

"We were so excited to take the ice in front of a home crowd on home ice," Miami University senior Isabella Quintero said. "Just our music within itself builds so much, so we wanted to not have the music carry us, but for us to carry the music. This theme is so important to us. It is an ode to joy and it's an ode to all the work that we put in this season. So, we were feeding off the energy of the crowd and off each other."

Les Supremes of Canada won their second straight World title with a score of 240.98. Finland secured the silver and bronze medals as the Helsinki Rockettes scored 239.56 points and Team Unique earned 237.68 points.
