Yahli Pedersen and Jeffrey Chen brought home silver from the fifth stop of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series Oct. 20-23 in Budapest, Hungary.
Only together since April, Pedersen and Chen have now earned silver at both their Junior Grand Prix assignments.
They set the tone from the start in Budapest, setting a new international personal best in the rhythm dance with a score of 64.90. Skating to "A Kind of Magic" and "Under Pressure" by Queen, Pedersen and Chen opened with their two strongest elements, Level 4 sequential twizzles and their midline step sequence.
Although Pedersen and Chen – who also secured silver at the Junior Grand Prix in Turkey – couldn't hold onto the lead in the free dance, they led the field with their component scores, scoring 81.38 points in the segment and 146.28 points overall to ensure a podium finish.
Olivia Ilin and Dylan Cain finished ninth with a final total of 126.40, tallying a new international personal best in the rhythm dance.
In the men's event,
Jacob Sanchez locked up a second top-five finish at the Junior Grand Prix series this season with a score of 198.67. He earned the highest component scores in both the short program and free skate.
After claiming a new international personal best in the short program with a score of 59.31,
Sherry Zhang went on to place fifth in the women's competition with 170.65 points.
